James City County Parks & Recreation’s state-licensed REC Connect program will modify its operations in conjunction with WJCC Schools’ decision to offer remote learning for the first nine weeks of the 2020-21 school year. REC Connect will operate full-day child care programs for grades K-5 from Sept. 8-Nov. 6. Care will be available Mon.-Fri., 7 a.m.-6 p.m.

Daily programming will include arts & crafts, gym/physical activity, games, outdoor play, healthy snack-making and virtual learning time. Participants will follow social distancing guidelines and wear masks while indoors.

REC Connect will consolidate operations, offering programs at Laurel Lane, Matoaka and Norge Elementary Schools. Depending on need, the program may also be offered at Matthew Whaley Elementary School. Weekly tuition is $110 for full-time participants (four or five days) and $90 for part-time students (three days or fewer). Discount assistance is available for qualifying households. Space is limited and REC Connect registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

To sign up for REC Connect, complete and return the registration packet. For more information, including parent orientation and COVID-19 safety measures, visit the REC Connect website. Contact the REC Connect team at 757-259-5351 with any questions.

Due to low registration, REC Connect will not offer a middle school Teens On Point program during the first nine weeks of the school year.

To apply for discount assistance, which can be used for many Parks & Recreation programs including REC Connect, call 757-259-5414 or visit the Discount Program website.

REC Connect’s operating plan is subject to change based on WJCC Schools’ operating plan and ongoing guidance from Governor Northam and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
